On Thursday, Makalii Kahumoku-Jose was charged with first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and second-degree theft.

His bail was set at $4,000 and his initial court appearance was Friday.

On Nov. 13 at about 11 p.m., a 41-year-old Kurtistown woman discovered that her vehicle, which was parked fronting a business on Keawe Street, had been broken into and her duffel bag was removed.

Responding officers were able to identify the suspect as Makalii Kahumoku-Jose after viewing security video footage, police said.
